Herbalism Course
This course will cover the practical skills of herbalism. Students will become familiar with the uses of native and cultivated medicinal herbs. They will spend time in the garden and in the field, identifying, processing, and making medicine with herbs. Students will learn the tools to start their own gardens, as well learning which herbs can be cultivated in Humboldt County. They will also learn how to make medicine for themselves and their loved ones.
Students will travel inland on the first fieldtrip to two medicinal herb nurseries including Flying Blue Dog Farm and Nursery and Crimson Sage Nursery. The guest teachers for the first fieldtrip include Rita Jacinto, Laurie Levey, and Tina Gassner. Christa will cover bioregional medicinal plants on the second fieldtrip.
Farm to Pharmacy Herbalism Course Curriculum:
- The uses of native and cultivated medicinal herbs
- How to harvest and process herbs
- Herbal medicine making
- Fieldtrips to gardens and nurseries
- Field identification
- Gardening and cultivation techniques
The tuition fee is a sliding scale of eight hundred dollars to nine hundred fifty dollars.
A two hundred dollar non-refundable deposit is required to hold a space.
The tuition fee includes course instruction and samples of the medicines made in the class.
Students are responsible for providing their own food, transportation, and lodging (including camping fees); as well as for their own food camping supplies for the overnight trips. Students will need to bring lunch and snacks to class on Fridays. There will be a lunch break provided on Fridays.
